What works in the current beta
- Upload an image from the extension popup.
- Right-click a webpage image and choose ImgShield.
- Inspect EXIF metadata, C2PA provenance, watermark markers, and generator traces locally.
- Request an optional enhanced check through ImgShield’s first-party endpoint after a clear user action.
What is not being promised yet
- No paid subscription is currently offered through this page.
- No automatic scan of every image on a page is advertised yet.
- No shared team queue, CSV export, or cloud history is advertised yet.
- No detector result is presented as proof or an automatic enforcement decision.
Permission design
The extension uses Chrome’s contextMenus permission for the right-click command and storage for the pending image handoff. Access to normal websites is optional and requested for the selected image origin when needed.
Its standing host access is limited to https://imgshield.fyi/* for the user-triggered enhanced-detection request.
Local analysis and cloud analysis
The bundled detector and metadata parser run inside the extension. They do not load remote JavaScript or WASM at runtime. A cloud check is separate and should occur only after the user chooses it.
Read the privacy disclosure for current website processing details. Store disclosures will be kept consistent with the released extension.
Beta release path
- Complete upload, right-click, permission-refusal, and cloud-failure tests.
- Verify the release package contains no keys, test samples, or unnecessary permissions.
- Finish store screenshots, permission explanations, support information, and privacy disclosures.
- Submit through the Chrome Web Store developer account.
- Add the official install link here only after the listing is approved and public.
For now, the safest public path is to use the live web checker. Developers and invited testers can contact ImgShield for the repository-specific local testing process; no unsigned download is offered from this page.
